A word from our Head of Coffee, Siala:
This is our first year working with Daye Bensa coffees, though we've long admired the quality of the coffees we would see from them. The Daye Bensa washing stations in Ethiopia were originally founded by the two Dukamo brothers and in 12 years have grown from the initial singular washing station they purchased to over 60 across several of Ethiopias premier coffee growing regions.
Not only does the reputation of the coffees themselves precede all else, the stations are known for exceptional organisation, efficiency and fantastic staff. A key pillar of how the business operates is investment back into local communities, the Daye Bensa School Project has seen an investment in over $1mil with the construction of 5 schools dedicated to investing in quality education to over 1200 students.
The Rumadamo station, in Arbegona woreda of the Sidama zone, where Teleporter comes from, is located in southern of Ethiopia. This is an area well known for exceptional coffees, and Ethiopia Cup of Excellence coffees, have often originated here. The station sits at around 2300masl with cherries arriving from the surrounding areas 2100-2400masl. The station staff deliver consistently excellent coffees, with clean processing at the forefront of what they do.
Daye Bensa work to ensure fair and appropriate renumeration for their producer partners. They pay above the local market price to incentivise producers to sell high quality cherry to them, and offer second payments as premiums. Each station farmer is taught best farming practices including how to make good compost, and they have access to free seedlings. They believe firmly not only in the success of their business, but in the overall betterment of Ethiopia's coffee industry as a whole.
We're so excited to have Teleporter transport you away to the mountains of southern Ethiopia!
